Similar to the coils that are used in ceramics to build vessels, I use ceramic rings to build totem like sculptures - a self portrait of sorts. In these photographs, I decided to adopt my own body as sculptural material. I am completely tied up with jumbo rubber bands, latex tubes, fabric, and ceramic pieces with no ability to move. I became squishy and shaped by the ceramic rings and other materials that squeezed me into place. By bounding myself, I am interested in the soft body occupying the space inside the hard clay structure and becoming a sculpture myself as well as feeling the states of change that I am asking my sculptures to be in.
