Portfolio > "Something, a Knotted Home" 2019

Similar to the coils that are used in ceramics to build vessels, I use ceramic rings to build totem like sculptures - a self portrait of sorts. In the first few photographs, I decided to become that sculpture myself and adopt my own body as sculptural material investigating ideas about malleability and vulnerability. I am completely tied up with jumbo rubber bands, latex tubes, fabric, and ceramic pieces with no ability to move. I became squishy and shaped by the ceramic rings and other materials that squeezed me into place. I am interested in occupying the space inside the structure and becoming a totem myself.
