Textiles were around long before the written word and this is as true in Lithuania as elsewhere. As early as 4000 BC, Lithuanians (or, more specifically, their Baltic tribal ancestors) were spinning yarn from linden bast fibers to make fishing nets. Lithuanian weavers were using the quadrangle pattern motives such as cross and harrow that later became the ornamentation of the Baltic region influencing neighboring European countries.
